Flashback Friday – S.E.S. – I’m Your Girl

Oh yeah.  S.E.S.  Waaay before Girls’ Generation, SM Entertainment had a 3-girl pop group.  Consisting of Sea(Bada), Eugene, and Shoo, S.E.S. proved to be a solid act, in addition to being one of the first successful female k-pop groups, staying together for a quite a long time.  This is one of their most famous songs.  Some time later….

You know how you can tell that this is a 90’s K-pop song?  RAP INTROS AND INTERLUDES!

[Now Listening] “Phoenix” by ZE:A

Ok so, it’s time to talk about another great k-pop song that I’ve been listening to a lot that came out on August 26th. First of all, let me just say, I know absolutely nothing about ZE:A (also known as Children of Empire). I have none of their songs and the only member I know is Kwanghee because he’s friends with lots of idols. With that said, this is the first song of theirs that I’ve really liked. It didn’t hit me immediately but after a few listens it’s really stuck to me. It’s got kind of a soulful rhythm to it. Really nice to listen to. So without further ado please check out Phoenix by ZE:A~

MadTV’s Guide to Korean Dramas

Starring San Diego’s own Bobby Lee, actress Cathy Shim and actor Sung Kang (Fast and Furious). Please enjoy the melodramatic romantic sequences, intense subtitles and fierce fight scenes from the Korean Drama “Tae Do”. If you understand Korean, you will find this twice as funny. If not, enjoy it for its artistic merit.

Flashback Friday – H.O.T. – Candy.

Spikes and Bangs, people. That’s what you needed in the K-pop world.

To be a 90’s K-pop group, your name had to be an acronym of some sort.  Half the time it didn’t make sense.  Girls, your hair was colored.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Guys, your hair was spiked and banged.  Colored too.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

Today’s flashback friday/throwback thursday song comes courtesy of H.O.T. (Highfive of Teenager.  No seriously, that’s what it stands for.).   If anything, this was the first salvo in the K-pop assault that would hit our shores.

Some time later, a certain band named SHINee did a throwback performance….

[Now Watching] Sullivan and Son

Alright, expensive studies show that as the temperature increases, the amount of blog activity on this site decreases. You want proof? Find it yourself because its too hot outside, I’m just going to lie on my bed and keep blogging lazily while watching TV . Speaking of which, I’ve been watching a relatively entertaining show on television on TBS (thats Turner Broadcasting System not the TBS the Korean one) called Sullivan & Son.

The show is co-produced by comedian Vince Vaughn, Rob Long(Cheers) and Peter Billingsley (Iron Man). The show stars the uber hilarious Korean-Irish-American Steve Byrne (watch his standup at some point), and features a talented cast of comedian Ahmed Ahmed, comedian Owen Benjamin,Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years), Christine Ebersole (Royal Pains, Amadeus), Brian Doyle-Murray (Groundhog Day, Saturday Night Live), Jodi Long (Beginners), Valerie Azlynn (Tropic Thunder), Vivian Bang (Yes Man).

[extracted from] In Sullivan & Son, Steve Byrne plays Steve Sullivan, a corporate attorney from New York who brings his girlfriend to his home in Pittsburgh for his father’s 60th birthday and learns that his Irish-American father, Jack Sullivan (Dan Lauria), and Korean Tiger Mom, Ok Cha (Jodi Long), are preparing to sell the multi-generational family business, a bar known as Sullivan & Son.

It doesn’t take Steve long to realize that where he really belongs is in the old neighborhood and running Sullivan & Son. And so begins Steve’s quest for a more meaningful and rewarding life behind the bar.
The show currently runs on Thursdays at 10/9C.   Watch it before it gets replaced with more Big Bang Theory repeats.
