[Now Listening] “I Wish” by FT Island

So guys, FT (Five Treasure) Island is back with their latest album “Five Treasure Box” and the title song of this album is called “I Wish.” FT Island is more often referred to as a rock band but I still include them in the kpop category because they’re one of the better known korean bands out there. I honestly don’t know too much about FT Island as a whole (only having three of their songs) but I’ll tell you that I DO know a lot about Lee Hongki (the leader of this group) and I’m in love with him and his voice is amazing. That alone can keep me going. This song “I Wish” has a great rock sound and they’ve also added a little Mexican Salsa vibe in as well! This has appealed to many fans and I’m loving it. This song’s been on repeat for a long time. Hongki’s voice is so powerful and this song is super catchy. Please check it out if you haven’t already!

[Now Listening] “Hands Up” by 2PM

You know what song I heard recently? I went to Zion Market (a Korean market here in San Diego) and I went to the kpop section to see if they had a specific album I was looking for and you know what song they were playing on the loud speakers? None other than “Hands Up” by 2pm. I was so excited. I wanted to dance in the store. I remember when this song first came out (June 20th, 2011), I loved it like no other. Then I stopped listening to it for awhile and now I’m back into it. To be honest, this was the first time I ever listened to 2pm. I didn’t know much about them. I fell in love with this song and it was very hard to pick a bias. Anyways, it’s a great song, you should listen to it. Also, the music video is awesome to watch in 1080p.

Asian Market Chronicles Restaurant Reviews

The Asian Market Chronicles: Super Music Mix Vol.1

How I love the Asian Music Scene. Half the fun of visiting an ethnic super market  is grooving to the upbeat catchy tunes while pushing your cart through the aisles with a melodic strut (not a Gangnam Style Strut but a humbler strut). Below are a few of the songs I’ve heard on my recent trips to San Diego Asian Markets. Adult Contemporary and Top 40 can take a backseat to these artists.

Girls Generation- Into the New World Remix (K-Pop)

Perfume- Spring of Life (J-Pop/Electropop)

[K-Restaurants] Korean Kitchen in Chula Vista

Image

Oh my! A Korean Food restaurant south of Convoy?

I heard about this place a few weeks back from Jini, who suggested Francis, Rolando, and I check it out since it’s much closer to home.  Feeling starved after waiting around the doctor’s office for 2 hours, my mom and I decided to check this place out.  I would’ve taken more photos inside but I was a bit distracted by watching the PSY concert on the TV (To be honest, it was really empty and I felt weird busting out my camera…)   Anyway, the location itself is pretty spacious and super clean.  There’s a chalkboard with the daily deals a-midst the 3 flat screens, which played a variety  of things to keep you entertained (but you could only hear the K-POP playing faintly in the background).

The menu has the your standard assortment of Korean dishes in addition to alcohol.  My mom opted for the 돌솥 비빔밥, while I grabbed myself a 갈비 lunch box.  We also ended up sharing an order of 계란찜.  I was surprised by how much food we got for the price… ‘Twas quite delicious, I must say.  The waitress was really nice too!

I hope that with time they’ll add more to the menu~  I’ll definitely bring my friends with me next time we’re craving some Korean food and looking to stay in the neighborhood. Until Next time, I’m headed off to my first driving lesson! Wish me luck? ;~;

Psy’s “Gangnam Style” on the Jay Leno Show

This happened a few days ago but for those of you who don’t know, Jay Leno made a reference to Psy’s viral hit “Gangnam Style” on his show on the night of August 31st. It’s pretty hilarious, he uses the song to show Romney (presidential candidate) trying to appeal to the younger generation, and Romney dances to Gangnam Style. It’s great, hilarious, and this is a huge step for kpop. Gangnam Style is making history left and right, and it also became the most viewed kpop video ever, passing Girls Generation’s “Gee”. Gangnam Style currently has about 95 million views and it’s said to be gaining about 5 million views a day. But, without further ado, check out Gangnam Style on the Jay Leno show!
