다음주 목요일, 4월 21일에 UCSD에서 “Mentorship Night”이 열립니다. 샌디에고 한미연합회 (KAC-SD)와 UCSD 학생 단체인 Kommon Society가 협동하여 마련했습니다.

Location: Forum Meeting Room (3rd Floor of PC, one of the nicest, biggest rooms)
Kommon Society and KAC-SD would like to invite you to our Mentorship Night! Join us on Thursday, April 21 from 7-9pm at the Forum Meeting room in Price Center for exclusive talks with professionals in the field.

Through Mentorship Night with KAC-SD, Kommon Society seeks to connect UC San Diego students with professionals in Law, Marketing and other interesting career fields. This event will allow students to learn more about a variety of jobs that are out in the “real world”.
I’m interested in hearing each professional’s journey of how they got to where they are now, and hearing their advice for college students who will soon be graduating. From my experience with networking events, I found that students can find professionals intimidating and hard to approach, but I hope the more casual, small-group. “speed-dating” style networking event will alleviate tension and allow conversations to flow. – Curie Kim, 4th year undergraduate at UC San Diego (VP of Kommon Society)

어떻게: 멘토들의 소개에 이어 스피드 데이팅 식으로 각 멘토와 학생 몇몇이 모여 앉아 대화를 나누는 세팅이 이루어 집니다. 행사 스케줄은 아래와 같습니다.

왜: KAC-SD의 주 목표중 하나는 커뮤니티의 선후배를 연결해주는 것으로서 지난해 샌디에고 주립대학에서의 멘토십 행사에 이어 이번에는 UC 샌디에고에서 개최하기로 했습니다. UCSD에서 행사 기획에 함께할 학생 단체를 찾다가 Kommon Society와 연결이 되어 같이 하게 되었습니다. KAC-SD가 멘토 초대와 음식제공을 담당하고 Kommon Society가 행사장 마련과 학교에서의 홍보를 맡아왔습니다.

UCSD Kommon Society는 학교 내 문과 계열 전공자들의 친목도모와 정보공유 및 졸업 후 각 분야에서 필요한 인재로 성장하기 위한 발판이 되고자 설립 된 클럽 입니다. 저희는 학과 공부와 관련된 정보뿐 아니라 많은 학생들에게 미디어, 법, 마케팅 등 다양한 분야의 실제 전문가들과의 만남을 통해 진로 결정에 도움이 되기 위해 KAC-SD와의 Mentoring Night 이벤트를 진행하게 되었습니다. 저를 포함한 여러 학생들이 각 분야에서 성공한 전문가들은 어떠한 삶의 여정을 통해 지금의 위치에 오게 되었는지, 또 그 분들이 졸업을 앞둔 대학생들에게 전해주고 싶은 조언은 무엇인지 매우 궁금해하리라 믿습니다. 그러나, 지금까지 진행된 기존의 Networking 자리를 부담스럽게 여기는 여러 학부 생들과 전문가들 사이의 소통이 원활하지 못했습니다. 이러한 점을 보완하기 위해 이번 KAC와 함께하는 Mentoring Night 은 소규모 그룹 안에서 학생들과 KAC 멘토들의 1:1 대화를 통해 보다 편안하고 활발한 교류가 이루어 질 수 있도록 진행 될 것입니다. 이번 이벤트를 계기로 학부생과 전문가들간의 유익한 소통의 장이 더욱 더 활발하게 이루어지기를 소망합니다.
