Korean War Veterans Digital Memorial Project

“…the youngest American who could have legally served in the Korean War would now be 79…”
We need to collect their oral histories now. Korean war should not, cannot remain a “forgotten war”.

Please let me know if you know of a US military Korean war veteran! I will come and record their memories of the war on video to be shared on the Digital Memorial website. (www.kwvdm.org

Hi! My name is Jini Shim, a graduate student of linguistics at San Diego State University volunteering at the Korean War Veterans Digital Memorial (KWVDM) as an interviewer. KWVDM is a non-profit group led by Professor Jongwoo Han of Syracuse University, and one of our goals is to collect oral histories of US veterans who served in the Korean war.
.
Over a hundred interviewed already done in the east coast. We need more from the west coast!
.
Click this link (http://kwvdm.org/collection.php?p=oral) and you will see that there is a ton of interviews already done by volunteers across the US. I was assigned to help the interview efforts in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. I hope to have to honor of meeting you to interview your Korean war stories on video and have it become a part of this digital memorial.
.
Even family members of Korean war veterans, and US military personnel  who didn’t serve in the Korean war but were stationed in Korea after the war can participate as interviewees.
.
You can also record the interviews yourself and submit it to us. Click here to do so: http://kwvdm.org/participate.php?p=submit
.
And if you’re interested to see, here is a photo album from my interview sessions in San Diego. https://www.flickr.com/photos/kkonnect/albums/72157648166627102
.
Please let me know if you would like to participate. My email is shimjini [at] gmail.com. Send me your phone number and the best time to call you and I will contact you.
.
Thank you very much in advance.

Why I’m doing this:
.
As a 1.5 generation Korean American, I like learning about Korea-US history. As once an aspiring filmmaker and journalist, I still enjoy doing interviews and video projects. And I like listening to older folks share their stories–there’s always great advice or insight to gain. Recently, someone remarked on how the youngest American who could have legally served in the Korean War would now be 79. That made me want to commit to this project more actively despite school work and other priorities. And I am happy to do so.

I’m Jini Shim aka Ms. ShimmyShimShim!
