It was only a matter of time before I chose to write this blog post about this wonderful song.  A sneak preview track from the debut album (set for release on the 16th), I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to wait!  (If you didn’t know, they’re my favs!)

PHANTOM is a Korean Hip-Hop trio comprised of Kiggen (Leader/Producer/Rap), Sanchez (Main Vocals/occasional rap), and Hanhae  (Main Rap/Vocals/my #1) under Brand New Music (Branched from Brand New Stardom)/WA Entertainment.   Originally the Electronic Group “HybReFine” (Kiggen + Sanchez), they decided to add Hanhae, who is a member of Busan Based rap group known as “Buckwilds” and is the Ex-Main Vocalist of Idol Group “Block B”.  A cool fact about the group is that Sanchez can speak/rap in English and Kiggen can speak/rap in Japanese, as they were born and raised in New Zealand and Japan.   They’ve released one official single (Hole in Your Face), 2 other songs (Tripartie Conference and 19Song)  and a CF for Hite (ICE with Kim Yuna).

The gentle piano and guitar paired with Sanchez’s vocals gives “Seaweed Soup” a refreshing, light image.   It’s the story of a struggling, good for nothing guy who forgot about his girlfriend’s birthday, and to make it up to her, he’s decided to cook her 미역국, or seaweed soup (hence the title).  He promises to fix things by offering her better gifts and making her the top priority, but the soup will have to do for now.  Even though times are rough, he’s doing the best to treat his girlfriend with the best possible respect that he can offer at the time. I admit, I teared up just a bit when I heard the song for the first time.  “Seaweed Soup” shows a sweeter side of PHANTOM in comparison to the raw emotion shown in the last single, “Hole in Your Face” (released last November…. which was too long ago)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the song as much as I do!  Now if you could please excuse me while I play the song on repeat for the next week~
